Chrishell Stause, a star of the show “Selling Sunset,” did not miss a moment between winning the MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Reality Star and returning to her fitness routine. She trains with Ocho, a personal trainer certified by NASM and the CEO of Power 8. Ocho shared videos on Instagram of Stause doing a complete outdoor workout circuit earlier this week. (
“Been locked in with my champion, Chrishell Stause, for a year and a half now, and it only gets better,” wrote Ocho in the caption of his post. “The dedication to the work is different. Straight from winning an award at the MTV awards to the grind. The work ethic is unparalleled.”
The clips display Stause performing five exercises in the sunny Los Angeles weather. The movements target her glutes, core, and essentially all areas of her body, according to Ocho. “Every session is a workout for the entire body,” he says, adding that they frequently engage in high-intensity workouts. In the first clip, the 40-year-old does static dumbbell lunges with a backward kick. After each repetition, she pauses and maintains balance on her standing leg, adding an extra challenge to stability and balance. In the following slide, she performs side squats with a press using a large loop resistance band (sometimes referred to as a superband). She moves side to side with the superband beneath her feet and holds it at shoulder level in her hands before pressing it overhead between squats. (
After that, Stause does lateral shuffle squats while holding a dumbbell in each hand. She raises the weights to execute cleans with every other step, utilizing momentum. This exercise is followed by sit-up combinations, in which she holds a bent-leg boat pose and performs shoulder press repetitions. Finally, Stause concludes the workout with 100 in-and-out crunches. She maintains a modified bent-leg boat pose with her hands on the mat behind her as she extends and retracts her legs and core. The exercise becomes even more challenging with a resistance band anchored around her feet.
At the end of the workout, Ocho asks Stause how she is feeling.
“I’m exhausted,” she declares as she collapses onto her yoga mat. Though she doesn’t appear to utilize excessively hefty weights, she’s reaping significant benefits from those dumbbells, resistance bands, and her own bodyweight, affirms Albert Matheny, R.D., C.S.C.S., co-founder of SoHo Strength Lab, Promix Nutrition, and ARENA, who observed the video. “She’s engaging various muscle groups and performing dynamic movements,” he further explains, highlighting that all of the exercises are likewise “moderately challenging on a cardiovascular level”— which means she’s attaining both cardio and resistance training within a single workout.
Overall, it’s an effective full-body workout, says Matheny. The dumbbells provide “extra weight and strain” to Stause’s exercises, and the resistance bands add an additional level of difficulty. “You have to utilize a lot of stabilizing muscles and are constantly under pressure [when using resistance bands],” he says.
While these exercises may be too advanced for beginners, if you’re comfortable with strength training and high-intensity movements and have dumbbells, a mat, and a resistance band at home, you can certainly give this workout a try. Ocho’s recommendation for attempting these moves? “Just ensure you push yourself and test yourself,” he says. “Give 100 percent.”
